Withdrawal Information

Sometimes you might not be able to finish a class or a semester and you decide that you will need to withdraw. It is important to understand that if you choose to stop attending classes, you should submit the appropriate withdrawal request to avoid any unintended consequences.

A withdrawal can impact a student financially, academically, and otherwise. Review withdrawal information so that you can choose the best route for your need.

Before You Submit

Add/Drop

There is a short period at the beginning of each new semester during which students are permitted to add and/or drop course(s) without penalty before withdrawal deadlines.

Make Sure Withdrawal is Right For You

Every student's situation may be different and if you are unsure how the withdrawal will affect you. We strongly encourage you to speak to:

Withdrawal Impacts

Students who request to withdraw from a course before the semester’s withdrawal deadline will receive a grade of W, which does not have any impact on a student’s GPA. Withdrawal requests submitted after the withdrawal deadline will result in a WF (withdrawal fail), which will negatively impact a student’s GPA.

Note: Individual course withdrawals will not generate a refund. A complete withdrawal is a withdrawal from all courses (no courses will remain on schedule). Upon the processing of a complete semester withdrawal, a partial refund of tuition and fees will be processed. Contact the Business Office with questions about refunds.

Withdrawal Types

Student Initiated

The partial or total withdrawal of a student in a process commenced by the student.

Hardship Withdrawal

A total or partial Withdrawal of a student, due to an emergency or other situation, that results in no academic penalty to the student.

If a student is unable to successfully complete a semester due to a physical, mental, emotional, or psychological condition, he or she may request a hardship withdrawal through the Dean of Students.

Military Withdrawal

A Total Withdrawal of an enrolled active duty military personnel or military reservists who receive Emergency Orders to active duty during the term.

If a student has received military orders that may impact their ability to complete the semester, they may submit a copy of their orders and any supporting documentation to the Registrar’s Office.

University-Inititated Withdrawal

A withdrawal of a student from a class, classes or the University in a process commenced by the University.

How To Withdraw From a Course While Still Enrolled in Others
If a student requests to withdraw for one or more course(s) but remain enrolled in at least one course, they should go to and follow these steps:

Log in to your Banner Student account

From the four-square icon on the top left, choose the Course Withdrawal Options

Select Withdrawal from one or more classes in the current semester (at least one class will remain on schedule)

Choose the “Register for Classes” section. Similar to adding or dropping a course in your course summary, select the withdrawal choice next to the class from which you want to withdraw.

How To Withdraw From All Courses
If a student requests to withdraw from all courses (no courses will remain on schedule) they should submit a through by following these steps:

Log in to your Banner Student account

From the four-square icon on the top left, choose the Course Withdrawal Options

Select Withdraw from the current semester (No classes will remain on schedule)

Student will be taken to the Withdrawal Request Form that they must complete for their withdrawal request to be submitted.

Once the request is submitted, it will be routed to the Registrar’s Office for processing. Students’ requests will be processed with an effective date of when they submitted the form. Additionally, the student will receive an email with resources and points of contact for their particular campus should they wish to speak with someone or have any further questions.

Have Holds?

For mandatory advising holds, contact your academic advisor to schedule a meeting. Once you have met and satisfied the reason for the hold, the hold will be lifted and you will be able to withdraw via Banner.

While we hate to see any of our Nighthawks leave the nest, we are here to support all of our students in their next steps, even if they’re not at 1688��.
